SUMAS, Wash. — Whatcom County Public Works announced today, February 18th, they are expecting to reopen S Pass Road this afternoon.
The half-mile section of S Pass Road has been closed northeast of the N Pass Road intersection since November 29th due to “excessive slide activity and pavement upheaval at two locations” following the mid-November heavy rains that led to disastrous flooding across the county.

A single gravel lane of South Pass Road will reopen to traffic around 3pm according to today’s announcement.
The area will be continued to be monitored for further settlement. Paving to allow for 2-lane traffic is planned for later this year once engineers confirm ground settling has ended.
