WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 4:40pm on Friday, August 22, 2025, to the northbound lanes of I-5 in a work zone in the area of the N Lake Samish interchange due to a report of a semi-truck and trailer crash.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding said this was a single vehicle versus barrier non-injury crash that resulted in closing the right lane. The truck trailer ended up on top of a Jersey barrier.

The right lane remained closed for about 15 hours to allow for the truck and trailer to be removed. Northbound I-5 traffic backups extending several miles were reported.

Washington State Department of Transportation announced about 7:45am Saturday that the right lane had been reopened.
