Beginning with the 2015-1016 school year, the Ferndale School District will provide school supplies for all students in grades K through 5. Supplies will also be provided for students in grades 6 through 12 who qualify for free or reduced meals.
According to the School District’s information flyer,
Ferndale Schools is making every effort to provide a free, public education to students by assisting families in purchasing school supplies for their children. The purposes of this effort are to reduce expenses for families and to ensure equity for each child.
Supplies provided include pens, pencils, paper, crayons, binders, tissue, erasers and more. Supplies will be delivered to the elementary classroom teachers and ready for students to use on the first day of school. Eligible students in grades 6 through 12 are to visit their school’s counseling office to receive supplies the first day of school.
Grades 6 through 12 Supply Lists
Families will still be asked to provide a backpack for each child in all grades. If assistance for this is needed, check with your child’s school office once school begins or contact their Family Support Coordinator at 360.383.2330 for assistance.
There is an opportunity for the community to help with the student backpack program through monetary donations.
Community members and organizations who would like to help make sure all our children have the supplies they need may make a monetary contribution to: Ferndale Family Community Fund, c/o Ferndale Resource Center, P.O. Box 2205, Ferndale, WA 98248. Contributions will be used to purchase student backpacks and other personal necessities. Contributions are tax deductible.
In light of these changes, the district also advises,
Since the district is providing supplies, there will be no Back to School Fair this year.
