S Pass Road intersection, scene of fatal Halloween crash, now a 4-way stop

EVERSON, Wash. — The intersection of S Pass Road and Goodwin Road on Thursday, October 31st, has been revised from a 2-way to a 4-way signed stop intersection according to Whatcom County Public Works. This intersection was the location of a fatal crash on October 31st.

All drivers should be aware of a new traffic pattern at the intersection of South Pass Road and Goodwin Road in Whatcom County. Flashing LED stop signs have been installed on South Pass Road for eastbound and westbound traffic at the intersection of Goodwin Road, making this intersection a four-way stop. 

This traffic pattern is effective immediately. “New Traffic Pattern” and “Stop Ahead” signs have also been placed to alert drivers to this change when approaching the intersection.

Goodwin Road has a 45mph speed limit north of the intersection and 25mph to the south. S Pass Road has a 50mph speed limit through the intersection. Prior to the announced change, traffic on S Pass Road did not have to stop at the intersection and Goodwin Road traffic did.

In addition to this year’s fatal crash, the intersection was the scene of another fatal crash in April of 2020 according to the Washington State Patrol’s collision database. Since 2020, it’s been the scene of 8 crashes, 4 of which were injury crashes, including 2 this year.
