Response for a car fire plugs Portal Way roundabout during evening commute

Whatcom County Fire District 7 firefighters were dispatched about 5:30pm to a report of a car fire in the roundabout on Portal Way by the southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps today.

According to a My Ferndale News reader caught in the resulting back up, there were several law enforcement vehicles along with fire and aid vehicles. Vehicles trying to get through the roundabout were delayed as a result.

Adding to the attention the disabled vehicle was getting, US Customs & Border Protection helicopter flying past took up a momentary hovering position overhead before continuing on their way.
