Whatcom Fire District 7 was dispatched to a report of a commercial structure fire at Recycling & Disposal Services, Inc. (RDS) today, June 5, at about 1:30pm. Garbage dropped off in the main building had ignited and according to witness reports grew to become “quite an intense” fire.
RDS staff are equipped with a water truck and jumped into action to attack the fire. In addition, when neighbor Whatcom Builders Inc. saw the fire they sent their water truck over to help. By the time fire trucks arrived, RDS staff had the fire under control.
According to WCFD Division Chief Dean Crosswhite responding fire fighters had only made sure everyone was safe since “they had things taken care of when we arrived. They did a really good job.”
The specific cause of the fire was not known at the time of this story but it originated near a small boat that had been disposed of in the pile of garbage.
