Passenger airlifted following I-5 rollover crash south of Bellingham Saturday

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 8:50pm on Saturday, July 5, 2025, to the northbound I-5 lanes north of the Nulle Road interchange due to reports of a rollover crash.

According to a press memo issued by the Washington State Patrol (WSP), a 2011 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 sedan was northbound when it left the roadway, rolled and came to rest on its side in bushes.

The driver, a 62-year-old woman from British Columbia, was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. The passenger, an 85-year-old woman from British Columbia, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

According to emergency services radio transmissions at the time, the Airlift Northwest helicopter used a landing zone set up in the northbound lanes of I-5 to pick up the passenger.

Both occupants were reportedly wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

According to the WSP, the driver had fallen asleep while driving.

The northbound lanes of I-5 were closed at the Nulle Road interchange until about 1:45am according to Washington State Department of Transportation.
