About 5pm yesterday, October 22nd, Discover Ferndale readers began reporting seeing over a dozen law enforcement vehicles “flying” through town with lights and sirens going.
Turns out there was multi-agency training happening at the vacant Mountain View Elementary School property when those units were called to an emergency situation on East Smith Road. The resulting parade of various law enforcement vehicles down Main Street, LaBounty Drive, Axton Road and West Smith Road was disconcerting to some.
According a news release from Undersheriff Jeff Parks, they were responding to the location of an assault and kidnapping suspect with a history of violence who was believed to be armed. After many hours of attempts to make contact with the suspect, entry was made and the suspect was taken into custody.
Fortunately for Ferndale, this target of their interest was on the other side of the county.
