Traffic impacts due to repaving and a culvert replacement project are expected to begin August 24th according a Whatcom County Public Works (WCPW) announcement today.
WCPW warned drivers last month to be prepared for a 3-week road closure due to work scheduled to replace a culvert under Northwest Drive at a location south of Slater Road. In addition to the culvert work, repaving portions of Northwest Drive is planned between Beaumont Drive and Slater Road and a portion of Slater Road from Northwest Drive to Pacific Highway is also expected to be repaved.
Here’s an overview of what to expect in the next few weeks: Northwest will close to all traffic on Monday, Aug 24, for the culvert replacement portion of the project. We expect the closure to last until at least Sep. 11. We will pave Northwest immediately after the closure. During the paving portion, drivers should expect delays but no additional closures. Crack seal road repair work will happen during the road closure. Getting both aspects of the project done at the same time will help us minimize the impact to drivers. We will still have some traffic control and flaggers when needed. Slater Road paving between Pacific Highway and Northwest while Northwest is closed. This could impact drivers exiting I-5 at Slater Road who want to go east. We expect this Slater Road paving work to be underway the week of Labor Day, so drivers heading out for the holiday weekend should plan accordingly.Whatcom County Public Works (August 10, 2020)
