City of Ferndale staff were among the over 200 participants from over 50 different US and Canadian agencies who participated from nearly 20 different locations in what was described as a major joint hazardous materials emergency drill held in Sumas today, October 16th.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) said today’s drill was over a year in the making.
The goal of the drill was to assess the agencies responses to an event affecting people in both countries.
Organizers said most of the activity during the drill would not be visible to the public, with the exception of the presence of emergency response equipment and light smoke. Traffic flow across the border was not expected to be interrupted.
