Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies responded to 9-1-1 calls of shots fired at a large gathering at a residence in the 300 block of W Pole Road this morning, August 10th, around 3am.
WCSO Chief Deputy Kevin Hester provided the following press release this morning.
Shortly after 3:00 AM on Saturday morning, August 10th, Deputies from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a shooting at a house party in the 300 block of W. Pole Road, Lynden, Washington. Neighbors reported that 20-30 people were fighting and shooting at each other, and that a white Honda-type car had sped away from the scene.
A short time later, deputies found a white Honda that had crashed in the round-about located at Guide Meridian and Ten Mile Road. The car was occupied by several people, including a male in his 20’s with a gun-shot wound to the leg. That subject was transported to the hospital for treatment of the gun-shot wound, which was not considered life threatening.
Other deputies (with assistance from Ferndale PD, Lynden PD and the Washington State Patrol) responded to a residence located in the 300 block of W Pole Road where a birthday party was occurring. Numerous people were at the residence, and many fled when law enforcement arrived. Deputies located a male in his 20-30’s with significant head and facial injuries. Witnesses reported that the injured male was being assaulted by several other people with fists and sticks. The male then pulled out a small caliber handgun in an attempt to stop the assault and fired several rounds, possibly striking at least one person. The injured male was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of significant head injuries.
At this time the investigation is on-going and further information or names of those involved will not be released until it is complete. Detectives are interviewing numerous witnesses and Crime Scene Investigators are processing the scene of the party looking for evidence. The case number on this investigation is 19A27513.
