FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the intersection of W Axton Road and Aldrich Road about 1:35pm today, Tuesday, October 24th, due to reports of a 3-vehicle rollover crash with potential injuries.
Initial radioed reports from the scene said some of the vehicles had substantial front-end damage and some patients needed to be extricated from their vehicle(s).
As of 1:45pm, all roads were being closed approaching the intersection.
The PulsePoint EMS dispatch log service reports at least 1 patient was transported from the crash site via medic unit and at least 1 other via ambulance.
About 3pm, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Deb Slater told Whatcom News the crash occurred when a vehicle southbound on Aldrich Road ran the stop sign at W Axton Road striking an eastbound vehicle and a westbound vehicle on W Axton Road.
The southbound driver, suspected of under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, was taken to the hospital in critical condition as was a second driver. The third driver and their passenger were taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure due to minor injuries. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
