BELLINGHAM, Wash. — A man suspected of arson and several other crimes recently pled guilty in Whatcom County Superior Court and has been sentenced to over 5 years on custody.

  • 2nd-degree malicious mischief
  • possession of stolen mail
  • 2nd-degree theft
  • 2nd-degree burglary

Mayshack received a sentence of 61.5 months on the first 2 crimes and lesser sentences on the others, all to be served concurrently with credit for time served.

Mayshack was listed as a suspect in 3 separate arsons being investigated by Bellingham Police when he was arrested on February 4, 2023.

A neighbor told police they had witnessed Mayshack use gasoline to start a fire near a residence. The neighbor stomped out the fire and then followed in his vehicle while Mayshack fled on a bicycle. Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies located Mayshack on his bicycle and he matched the description given by the neighbor.

Fire damage was said to have extended up an exterior wall “reaching the top of the window, and melted the trim around the window approximately six to seven feet high.”
