Ty Antonio Garrett, age 23, was booked into Whatcom County Jail on the charge of 2nd degree assault of a child in connection with injuries to his girlfriend’s child.
Ferndale Police Lieutenant Matt Huffman told Discover Ferndale police were notified October 16th when a 2-year-old child was admitted to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with leg injuries. Doctors determined the leg had a fracture.
According to Huffman, police determined Garrett was the boyfriend of the child’s mother and their investigation revealed he had, on two separate occasions, assaulted the child.
The first incident occurred October 15th when Garrett grabbed the child by the face in a fit of frustration, causing bruising. The second incident happened on the 16th. According to Huffman, “while change the child’s diapers, [Garrett] again became angry at the child, yanking and holding the child in the air by one leg. This is what caused the fracture to the leg.”
Assault of a child in the second degree is a class B felony, punishable by a term of ten years and/or by a fine up to twenty thousand dollars.
As of the publication of this article, Garrett remained in custody.
