POINT ROBERTS, Wash. — A 34-year-old Point Roberts man is in custody in the Whatcom County Jail after he attempted to forcibly enter the Point Roberts border crossing and threatened to return with a bomb.
According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Whatcom County Superior Court, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Point Roberts point of entry (POE) about 1:40am on Saturday, February 21, 2026, due to report of trouble with a subject.
Deputies were told by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers the man had showed up and swung an axe at the front doors of the CBP office, damaging the bullet proof glass. The man also reportedly used the axe to smash the windows of a CBP vehicle. He then reportedly threatened to return with a bomb in his truck.
While deputies were searching for the man, he returned to the POE. Deputies returned and took him into custody without incident.

Deputies learned from the CBP officers the man had been trespassed from the POE in 2019 and cited for violating the no trespass order on February 7, 2026.
The man pled guilty in January 2022 in US District Court for the Western District of Washington to a charge of assault on a federal officer with bodily injury resulting from an incident at the Point Roberts POE in 2019.
As of February 26, 2026, the man remained in custody at the Whatcom County Jail pending being able to post a $150,000 bond. Court records indicate a competency evaluation has been ordered.
