M3.3 earthquake reported NW of Orcas Island this morning

An earthquake registering magnitude 3.3 has been reported by seismologists this morning about 10:09am.

The earthquake was centered near Samuel Island, approximately 25 miles west of Ferndale. Initial reports indicate it occurred at a depth of about 35 miles.

Earthquakes in the magnitude range of 2 to 4 are considered “minor.” Minor earthquakes are likely only detectable by people in the nearby vicinity.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage from the earthquake.
