LYNDEN, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 2000 block of W Main Street in Lynden about 8am on Thursday, May 1, 2025, due to reports of a car versus school bus crash with injuries.
The Lynden School District issued a statement confirming one of their buses had been involved in the crash. The statement said the bus driver died as a result and there were no students on the bus at the time.

Lynden Police Interim Chief of Police Jeremy Bos issued the following statement.
The Lynden Police Department, with assistance from the Washington State Patrol and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at approximately 0755 hrs, in the 2000 block of Main Street.
Preliminary investigation indicates that a white SUV traveling Eastbound collided with a Lynden School District Bus traveling Westbound. Emergency responders arrived on scene shortly after the incident was reported.
Tragically, the driver of the bus was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the involved SUV was transported to Peacehealth Medical Center for treatment.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation, and it is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area during that time to contact the Lynden Police Department at (360) 354-2828.
