Whatcom County Public Works announced today the Whatcom Chief will be pulled from service for its annual maintenance from September 10th to October 1st. It will be replaced with passenger-only service during that time.

Parking will be provided on the mainland side of the crossing and a shuttle van will provide service to/from the island side landing.

According to the County Public Works’ website

Each year the Whatcom Chief spends time in dry dock in order to undergo annual maintenance. The vessel can be in dry dock from 2 to 3 weeks, depending on the extent of the maintenance needed.
