Letter to the Editor: Bond represents fiscally responsible package

As a parent of Ferndale School District students, I support the bond measure that will be on the February 12 ballot. I want a better high school facility for all the children of this community, including my own. They need a facility that supports the kind of education required for 21st century jobs. Our kids need to know this community supports them enough to provide a safe, healthy, and modern place to learn.

In addition to a new high school, the bond will provide dollars to fix critical maintenance needs across the district. Safety and security upgrades at every school are also fully funded. The bond also provides for an independent Community Oversight Committee, fully empowered to monitor all aspects of bond spending, and ensure all projects are completed as the community intends.

While serving on the Bond Task Force, I spent five months with other community members studying the condition of Ferndale schools, reviewing each facility’s needs, and considering every option for addressing those needs. I am convinced this bond represents a well-thought-out, fiscally responsible package that reflects our community values.

I strongly encourage you to review all available information, and make a well thought decision. Please review the work of the Bond Task Force, and read our report to the School Board. Visit the District’s bond website for even more information, and check out the FAQs and property tax details on the Support Ferndale Schools site. Lastly, talk to your friends and neighbors.

It’s our responsibility to make well informed, rational decisions.

Without a doubt, I believe that decision to be YES, approve the Ferndale school bond. Please join me.

“It’s a matter of Pride” Thank you kindly for your time.
