Washington State Patrol Director of Public Affairs Chris Loftis provided Whatcom News the following details via email.

Shortly before 9:30 this morning, a Border Patrol agent was involved in an operation that led to a vehicular pursuit of a suspect in Whatcom County. During that pursuit, the agent’s vehicle was involved in a collision with an uninvolved third party at the 4-way stop at the intersection of Birch Bay – Lynden and Enterprise Roads. Both drivers sustained minor and non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

WSP is investigating the collision as we would any other.  The investigation is ongoing.

Questions regarding HSI/ICE/Border Patrol’s initial operations should be directed to HSI. Questions regarding any alleged crimes by the fleeing suspect should be directed to the FBI.
