Juvenile arrested following high-speed pursuit, crash in Blaine

BLAINE, Wash. — Blaine Police Department (BPD) issued a statement regarding a recent incident involving a stolen vehicle pursuit.

According to the statement, on Tuesday, August 13th, at about 11:39pm, a BPD was on routine patrol when he saw what he believed to be a Cadillac Escalade reported as stolen.

The officer activated his patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and the Cadillac backed up and began driving away. It drove south on Peace Portal Drive while reaching speeds of 90mph. It got on southbound I-5 and increased its speed to 120mph. It exited I-5 at Grandview Road, continued west on Grandview Road until turning north onto Blaine Road.

According to radio transmissions at the time, the pursuit continued back to Blaine, over I-5 and then onto 8th Street. The juvenile driver and passenger bailed out of the moving car and took off on foot in different directions.

The Cadillac continued rolling until it collided with a parked car and mailbox.

A perimeter was set up around the area involving multiple law enforcement agencies while a search was conducted to locate the 2.

According to the BPD’s statement, the juvenile driver was apprehended after a short search and booked into juvenile detention charged with suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude a police vehicle, 2nd-degree and 3rd-degree malicious mischief.

The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, the US Border Patrol, and a K-9 team from the Bellingham Police Department provided assistance according to BPD.
