High Wind Warning issued as winds begin buffeting the area

No weather-related power outages had been reported in the Ferndale area as of 11pm, but winds had picked up as forecast, already reaching 50mph+.

Just before 11pm tonight, the National Weather Service upgraded their forecast from a Wind Advisory to a High Wind Warning which will remain in effect until 10am tomorrow, Thursday. Southeast winds of 25 to 40mph with gusts to 50 to 60mph are expected.

According to a weather station near Ferndale High School, gusts of 67mph had been recorded around 11pm but most have been in the mid 50mph range. Weather monitoring equipment at the Bellingham International Airport report the highest gust closer to 50mph as of 11pm.
