High-speed Pursuit Through Ferndale

flashing red lightbar - stock picFerndale tonight, June 16th, was filled with multiple sirens just after 11pm along I-5 from Bakerview Road to Main Street and down Axton Road as law enforcement from multiple agencies pursued car thieves in a stolen car.

The owner of the stolen car had been following it from the Cordata neighborhood in Bellingham while communicating with 911 dispatchers. Law enforcement took up the chase on I-5 with speeds reported over 100 MPH. Turns out a second vehicle was also involved but they pulled over on I-5 north of Slater Road.

The suspects in the stolen vehicle ended up eastbound on Axton Road doing close to 100 MPH to Hannegan Road and then turned back westbound on Smith Road where they drove over a spike-strip deployed by law enforcement.

The suspects in the stolen vehicle were taken into custody soon after they lost control and crashed their vehicle into a power pole on E Smith Road near Guide Meridian Road. The suspects in the other vehicle stopped on I-5 were also taken to be booked at the jail.
