First responders were dispatched to the southbound lanes of I-5 south of W Smith Road about 12:40pm due to a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said there was only the 1 vehicle and they transported the driver to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of 1:15pm, Whatcom County Fire District 7 aid crews, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Washington State Patrol (WSP) had cleared the scene, reopening the right lane which had been closed for about 30 minutes.

According to WSP Trooper Anthony Reese, there are indications another vehicle changed lanes in front of the victim’s Scion passenger car without leaving much distance between the vehicles. This maneuver startled the victim who subsequently lost control of her car and it rolled off the shoulder of the road.

The victim was able to get out of her car and while assessing the damage suffered a medical event.

Reese said she had been checked over at the hospital and her injuries determined to be minor.
