First responders were dispatched about 7:35am to the northbound lanes of I-5 north of the Main Street interchange due to a report of multi-vehicle injury crash.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite, there were 3 cars involved in the crash and 2 patients were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center under advanced life support protocol with non-life threatening injuries.
1 of the patients had to be extricated from their vehicle by cutting the roof off Crosswhite said.
Northbound traffic was diverted off of I-5 at Main Street until about 10:20am.

Initial reports were a vehicle heading south in the northbound lanes was involved in the crash. Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Rocky Oliphant said they had received the first report of a wrong-way driver 5 minutes before receiving a report of the crash.
A press memo issued by the WSP said a Seattle man, Antar Plummer, age 34, was driving a black 2001 Lexus LS southbound in the northbound lanes. A Surrey BC man, Isiah Hendricks, age 19, was driving a silver 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit northbound in the same lane and collided head-on with the Lexus. The collision pushed the Volkswagen into a white 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by a Versailles, Kentucky man, Paul Bach, age 36, which was northbound in the other lane.
Plummer and Hendricks were transported to the hospital. Bach was not injured according to the WSP press memo. All drivers had been wearing their seat belts.
The WSP is still investigating. Oliphant said they were in the process of determining if drugs or alcohol or a medical condition may have been involved. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
All vehicles involved were considered total losses.
