WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Significant impacts are being reported worldwide following an information technology outage Friday, July 19th, effecting some businesses and infrastructure systems. While impacts reported include some airport operations and some telephone services, as of 7am, local impacts appear few.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued temporary ground stops impacting Delta, United and American airlines among others. Travelers booked on flights scheduled through Bellingham International Airport are advised to confirm their flight times and status with their airlines but note that the Allegiant Air website has been unavailable.
Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) reports a telephone system impact that may impact their paratransit & flex trip service customers.
The What-Comm 911 Center is not reporting any outages.
More impacts are expected to be reported once people arrive at their work locations.
Initial reports were that the outages were the result of a faulty software update sent out to some Microsoft customer systems by a cybersecurity company.
