Washington Governor Jay Inslee has directed Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, August 4th, and Wednesday, August 5th in memory of 2 law enforcement officers who were recently killed in the line of duty.
The Office of the Governor said flags are to fly at half-staff Tuesday in memory of Bothell Police Officer Jonathan Shoop. Shoop was accidentally shot and killed during a traffic stop on July 13th.
Flags are to fly at half-staff Wednesday in memory of WSP Trooper Justin R. Schaffer who was fatally struck by a fleeing vehicle while placing spike strips down in an attempt to end the pursuit in Chehalis. Schaffer died on March 24th.
Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on each day.
