UPDATED: Fire on-site at Intalco today

UPDATE 9/23/16
Alcoa Communications Director Josh Wilund confirmed there were no injuries and the fire was “isolated to the ductwork associated with the carbon plant, where carbon anodes are produced.”

5:10pm
Josh Wilund, communications director for Alcoa, told Discover Ferndale the fire has been contained and there have been no injuries reported. Intalco firefighters contacted Whatcom County Fire District 7 for assistance in controlling the fire. According to Wilund, Plant production has not been impacted.

Persons familiar with the facility said the carbon plant was the location of the fire.

4:15pm
Several fire units from multiple Whatcom County Fire District 7 fire stations responded to Intalco Works about 4pm today. Light smoke arising from one of the buildings could be seen.
