FHS Renovation Bond Will Have to Wait Says District

The Ferndale School District announced in a press release today, November 10th, that the bond issue anticipated to be put in front of voters in a special election this spring will have to wait.

According to the release,

The Ferndale School Board has decided to postpone asking voters to approve a bond for school facilities. The school district was originally considering an April 2016 election date. However, school district officials feel more time is needed to engage the community and seek public input for a lower cost proposal.

While acknowledging recent news about expected Alcoa Intalco Works layoffs helps confirm the decision to postpone, the district says their decision was made before the Intalco announcement.

No specific time-frame was provided except to say a bond will have to be considered “sometime in the future.”

The Maintenance and Operations Levy will still be up for renewal in February 2016. According to the release,

The levy, which has been approved by voters every year since 1977, funds a quarter of teacher salaries, two-thirds of our classified staff, as well as athletic, music, technology, and safety programs for our students.
