Several Ferndale DECA chapter members recently traveled to Bellevue, WA to attend and participate at the state conference.
DECA is a global student leadership organization that focuses on all aspects of marketing. The Ferndale DECA chapter currently has about 30 student members.
The students competed for the highest scores in various role play scenarios and prepared business plans. They also take a 100-question marketing knowledge test that makes up a third of the members total score.
Ferndale DECA members participated in the Washington DECA Area 1 (schools north of Everett) conference in January during which the following students placed and became eligible to participate at the state conference, according to Jeff Wood, business teacher and DECA advisor at Ferndale High School.

Also, Celeste Alvarez was elected Area 1 president at the Area Conference. She will begin her term this summer. Elizabeth Balentine and Anthony Schulz, as 1st year members, advanced to the state conference as well in the Principles of Marketing event.
The state conference was held March 5, 6 and 7. The Ferndale members competed against the top 70 in each event from across the state.
Anthony placed 4th in the state in Principles of Marketing and will advance to represent Ferndale/WA at DECA’s International Career and Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando in April.
Alvarez and Sarah Parmer will be traveling to Orlando as well as a result of a 50-page School-Based Enterprise paper that was certified Gold Standard by DECA. They will present their paper at ICDC.
