Early this morning local law enforcement and aid units were called to assist with a person who appeared to be sleeping in a tree. It was reported the person had been known to sleepwalk.

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman, the person was discovered asleep about 15 feet up in a tree and a neighbor was concerned they might fall so aid was requested to help them out of the tree.

Aid and police arrived, gently woke the sleepwalker and assisted them to the ground without incident.

A 2012 research study on ‘nocturnal wandering’ from Stanford University showed almost 4% of adults experience episodes of sleepwalking.
