Ferndale School District & Teachers’ Union Reach Agreement

FEA and FSD logosIt still requires a vote by the union membership but last night, August 25th, school district and teachers’ union negotiators reached an agreement on a new 1-year contract.

The Ferndale Education Association (FEA) member vote has been scheduled for August 31st in the hope of ratifying the contract.

Both sides were complimentary of each other and the process during and after negotiations.  Coming out of the negotiations, Ferndale School District Executive Director for Human Resources Dr. Paul Douglas told Discover Ferndale, “We enjoyed the process of working with FEA’s negotiators. It really was a team effort.” During negotiations, FEA Vice-president Tracie Morris told Discover Ferndale, “We are still positive and optimistic. We hope to reach agreement soon.”

According to Morris class size was a concern as negotiations were coming to an end.

The terms of the contract will be made public if union members approve it. Otherwise negotiations will restart.
