The Washington State Patrol said in a press memo that 20-year-old Penny R Jefferson of Bellingham had been killed in a single-vehicle crash on Mosquito Lake Road Sunday, May 19th, about noon.
Ferndale School District officials confirmed Jefferson was employed as a Native American Student Advisor at Skyline Elementary School & Ferndale High School.
The District released the following Monday morning:
Penny was a member of Lummi Nation and graduate in the Ferndale High School class of 2016. Earlier this school year, Penny was hired to serve as one of our Native American Student Advisors. She was providing direct service for students at Ferndale High School and Skyline Elementary School. We will have extra support available at both Ferndale High School and Skyline Elementary school for students and staff.

According to the WSP press memo, Jefferson was driving a green 2014 Kawasaki EX650FEF motorcycle northbound in the 4500 block of Mosquito Lake Road when it failed to negotiate the curve, striking a power pole.
Jefferson had a motorcycle endorsement on her driver’s license, was wearing a helmet and it was unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the press memo. Speed was cited as the cause.
