FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the northbound I-5 on-ramp from Main Street in Ferndale about 8:45am on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, due to reports of a crash.
Initial radioed reports from the scene said 2 vehicles appeared to be involved and 1 was on lying on its side.
The crash and subsequent emergency services response resulted in blocking the ramp to traffic.

As of 9:15am, Ferndale Police issued a statement warning motorists of traffic impacts on Main Street following the ramp closure. They added, “Please avoid the area if possible and use alternate routes.”
According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center via an ambulance.
Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Brad Tulloch confirmed this is a serious injury crash.
No estimate for reopening the ramp has been made available.
Trooper Tulloch told Whatcom News a Toyota Tundra pick was exiting northbound I-5 when it left the off-ramp and crashed into a Nissan Versa on the adjacent on-ramp. The driver of the Nissan was transported from the scene via ambulance. Charges are pending.
The northbound on-ramp reopened about 1pm.

The WSP issued a press memo about 3:45pm stating that the 2014 Toyota was driven by a 25-year-old Bellingham man. A 25-year-old woman and 3 children, age 17 months, 5 years and 7 years were passengers in the Toyota. All were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and none were reported to have been injured.
The 2019 Nissan was driven by a 54-year-old Everett woman who was also wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol and drugs were determined to have not been involved. The cause remained under investigation.
