Ferndale City Hall temporarily closed due to water damage

FERNDALE, Wash. — City of Ferndale employees arrived at City Hall this morning, Thursday, September 18, 2025, to discover significant water damage on the main and second floors. As a result, all staff were instructed to work remotely.

Communications and Community Relations Officer Megan Juenemann provided the following via email in response to an inquiry from Whatcom News.

City staff coming to work at approximately 6:30 this morning observed the damage. The extent is still being determined but is not expected to be structural or impacting public documents. The leak is not related to work within the parking lot. The cause is still being assessed; however, it looks as though it was a water leak (not sewer) that came from the second story restroom, impacting both floors of City Hall. City Hall will be expected to re-open for normal business hours on Monday, September 22nd, and is closed primarily to make repairs and to allow cleaning crews to mobilize.

City Staff will be working remotely to and can still be available by phone and email. City Services remain available at www.cityofferndale.org.
