A family was displaced after their home was destroyed by fire at Portal Way and Trigg Road.
The home was located in the Ferndale Mobile Home Park (formerly known as Duncan’s).
Firefighters were dispatched about 9:45pm to a report of a structure fire and initially described the scene via radio as a fully involved mobile home. Firefighters ultimately took up defensive positions to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes and vehicles.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) Division Chief Ben Boyko, everyone in the home had got out safely by the time firefighters arrived. Red Cross had been contacted to assist the family of 5 adults and 5 children who were living in the rented home.
Boyko said a blanket ignited by a space heater is suspected of causing the fire. A Whatcom County fire investigator arrived on the scene to investigate the cause further.
