FERNDALE, Wash. — A City of Ferndale official announced W Smith Road just west of LaBounty Drive is closed to all traffic until further notice as of this evening, December 21st.
Ferndale Public Works Supervisor said the road was being closed after it was determined the asphalt surface was damaged.
The section of road is chronically covered by surface water flowing north to south across the road due to overflowing ponds and swales located to the north.
“We do not expect to be reopening the road anytime soon,” Westford told My Ferndale News. Westford said the road will remain closed until the water recedes and crews are able to access the road to make the repairs. “It’s going to be closed at least a week,” he said.

This section of road was closed for a day due to surface water flooding in late November and for an extended period due to roadway damage in June.
