FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched about 11:40am on Sunday, January 7th, to a residence in the 6100 block of Apollo Drive in Ferndale due to reports of a garage fire.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Fire Chief Ben Boyko told Whatcom News they arrived to find the garage door had been blown onto the driveway and there was a small fire inside the garage.

Boyko said no one was home except for some pets that were safely evacuated from the residence.

The explosion not only blew the garage door off but also moved garage walls off the foundation.

The rest of the residence was not damaged but the natural gas service was shut off to the house.

Ferndale Police were on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
