UPDATED: Everson man in jail after fatal shooting in Everson

EVERSON, Wash. — A 20-year-old Everson man is currently being held in the Whatcom County Jail after being arrested and charged with suspicion of 2nd degree murder.

According to jail records, Ethan Knight was booked into the jail about 3am today, January 7th, by the Bellingham Police Department for a crime committed in the Everson Police Department‘s jurisdiction (edits are to correct an error that appeared in the jail log).

Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Deb Slater told Whatcom News in an email that, about 11:40pm last night, Everson Police had been dispatched to the 600 block of Pioneer Court for an assault with a weapon. “The reporting party called 911 and reported that her ex-husband had been shot by her adult son, and it appeared he was deceased.” Slater said. “Officers and EMS discovered an adult male subject deceased inside the residence. 20-year-old Ethan Knight was taken into custody and booked into the Whatcom County Jail this morning for Murder in the Second Degree.”

No other details of the incident are being released at this time.

In addition to Everson Police, personnel from Whatcom County Fire District 1 responded. According WCFD1 Assistant Fire Chief Rachel Carlson, an adult male victim was declared dead at the scene.

The suspect is scheduled to make a preliminary appearance in Whatcom County Superior Court today.
