This morning Whatcom County Sheriff Officers responded to a report of a car in the ditch at the intersection of Ferndale Road and Marine Drive. They found an abandoned vehicle in a few feet of swift flood water. What-Comm dispatch radio reported that the driver had gotten on a Whatcom Transit Bus and taken to the Bellingham Fire Station on Broadway. Hypothermia was indicated.
Whatcom County Undersheriff Jeffrey Parks said he had little information about the incident since the deputy or deputies who responded had little to do since the driver had left and the vehicle was unable to be retrieved until after the flood water recedes.
Discover Ferndale had yet to hear from the Bellingham Fire Department at the time this story was posted.
Undersheriff Parks took the opportunity to remind the public that the majority of deaths related to flooding are the result of people driving through flooded areas.
