Drive-by shooting suspects face additional charges

BLAINE, Wash. — Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release today, Tuesday, July 25th, detailing new charges against an 18-year-old and a juvenile who are already facing drive-by shooting and assault charges following their arrest yesterday.

The press release said the 2 are suspects in a drive-by shooting in the City of Blaine that occurred the same morning as the shootings in the Ferndale area. It was also discovered that the firearm used was reported stolen out of Bonney Lake, Washington in February. As a result, additional counts of drive-by shooting and charges of 2nd-degree assault and possession of a stolen firearm have been added.

Yesterday, WCSO said 18-year-old Alejandro Villa Herrera of Bellingham was the driver of the vehicle and he admitted to driving in the area of Custer, north of Ferndale when his passenger, a 17-year-old male, pulled out a handgun and fired several shots out of the window.

Blaine Police also issued a press release today detailing the Blaine incident. They say that about 1:30am a resident reported hearing 3 gunshots in the area of Bayview and Mary Avenues. Additional witnesses confirmed hearing the gunfire. There were no injuries reported and evidence of shooting was found. Later, about 7:45am, a resident in the area reported finding a bullet hole in an exterior wall of their residence. Responding officers located a second bullet hole on the second floor.

Video footage was located showing the suspect vehicle entering and leaving the area.

WCSO said in the press release that the motivation for the shootings has not yet been determined and the investigation is continuing.
