EVERSON, Wash. — An 87-year-old Burlington woman is dead after a 2-vehicle head on crash on Lawrence Road (SR9) north of the Mount Baker Highway (SR542).
First responders were dispatched about to Lawrence Road due to after a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputy came upon a crash in the area E Hoff Road about 9:45am on Wednesday, July 17th.
According to a Washington State Patrol press memo issued Thursday, July 18th, a 2003 Chevrolet Express van was southbound on Lawrence Road when it crossed the centerline and struck a 2013 Toyota Corolla hatchback head on.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as a 29-year-old man from Auburn, was determined to be uninjured while both occupants of the Toyota, a man and woman in their 80s from Burlington, were transported by aid crews to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham. The passenger was declared deceased at the hospital.
All occupants in both vehicles were determined to have been wearing their seatbelts.
WSP identified the cause of the crash as distracted driving.
