Details released regarding arrest of man charged with possession of child pornography

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Christopher Daniel McCullough, age 38, was arrested and booked into the Whatcom County Jail on October 10th. He is currently facing 4 counts of felony 1st-degree possession of depictions of minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in Whatcom County Superior Court.

Bellingham Police Department (BPD) were contacted on September 28th by a woman who reportedly had found child porn on McCullough’s smartphone. The woman had met with him several times over the last few months. During a recent encounter at a lakeside residence in Skagit County, he mentioned having child porn pictures and videos on his phone. When the woman borrowed his vehicle, she found his smartphone inside and was able to access files on the phone, including the images and videos he mentioned. She then called 911 and reported her findings. On October 3rd, warrant was issued for his arrest and mailed to his last known address on Fieldston Road in Bellingham.

According to an amended affidavit of probable cause filed with the court, the Investigations Unit of the BPD went to the lakeside residence to serve a search warrant and take McCullough into custody under the arrest warrant.

Mccullough did not come to the front door when officers knocked and announced and instead attempted to leave out the back basement level, sliding glass door while announcements were being done at the front of the house. He then went back inside the residence. He still did not come to the front, as was being asked of him by officers and eventually entry by officers was made into the residence.

In the basement level of the home, officers observed shelving which appeared to have been moved out of the way and the access door to the crawlspace was open. McCullough was located by officers hiding in the crawl space and after some time he agreed to come out of the crawlspace. McCullough was taken into custody and then transported to the Wacom County jail.

The crawl space area was searched by investigators and a cell phone was located half buried in the dirt, and a computer hard drive component was in the rafter area of the crawl space where McCullough had been hiding. Two containers filled with a hard ball of white powdery substance which were later tested presumed positive for presence of cocaine, were located in the crawl space as well.

McCullough is scheduled to be arraigned on October 18th in Whatcom County Superior Court.
