BELLINGHAM, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to several crashes along I-5 today, November 12th, which resulted in backups stretching for miles in both directions.
An initial crash occurred at the end of the on-ramp to northbound I-5 from Sunset Drive. 3 vehicles were reportedly involved and first responders were dispatched about 12:35pm.
Washington State Patrol Trooper Rocky Oliphant said a 2017 Toyota Prius, a 2013 Toyota Prius and a 2018 GMC pickup were involved in that crash. The cause of that crash was determined to be speed too fast for the conditions. 2 people from the crash were transported by ambulance with minor injuries.
The left lane remained open most of the time while first responders treated patients, investigated the crash and cleared the scene. Both lanes were reported reopened about an hour later. In the mean time, 2-mile traffic backups in both directions formed.
Other incidents reported in the area about the same time or soon after, all non-injury and on northbound I-5, included a crash at the I-5 off-ramp at Old Fairhaven Parkway and another, involving a semi truck, occurred north of Samish Way.
