Crashes shut down I-5 lanes through Ferndale Wednesday evening

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the northbound lanes of I-5 between Smith Road and Main Street in Ferndale about 5:50pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, due to a report of a motorcycle crash.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding told Whatcom News that troopers responded to an unconfirmed report of a motorcyclist that had fallen off their vehicle. She said it was categorized by troopers on the scene as a non-reportable crash and did not involve any other vehicles. She said the motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

A second incident was reported in the traffic backup in the northbound lanes of I-5 at the Slater Road about 6:20pm. Harding said initial unconfirmed reports were of a rollover crash with a sedan ending up on its roof. The driver was reported outside the vehicle and walking.

According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 person was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center by ambulance from the scene.
