Crash snarls already backed up lanes of I-5 near Whatcom County border

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) crews closed 1 lane in a mile-long stretch of the northbound lanes of I-5 in the area of the N Lake Samish interchange while making repairs this week. Today, January 20th, first responders were dispatched about 12:30pm to a report of a crash in the resulting traffic backup south of the Nulle Road interchange.

According to Washington State Patrol Trooper Jacob Kennett, there was a 2-vehicle crash in the left lane at about the Whatcom-Skagit County border. WSDOT were directing traffic at the scene.

According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log, at least 1 person was transported by ambulance from the crash scene.

The backup from the N Lake Samish work site, including the backup resulting from the crash, extended nearly 4 miles.
