Crash involving law enforcement vehicle on W Smith Road sends at least 1 to hospital

FERNDALE, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to W Smith Road near Bel West Drive in Ferndale about 4pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, due to report of a crash involving a Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

Initial unconfirmed radioed reports said the crash occurred at the intersection of W Smith Road and Saratoga Place.

According to the PulsePoint EMS dispatch log reporting system, at least 1 patient was transported from the crash scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph’s Medical Center by an ambulance.

This crash occurred while first responders were being dispatched to a fatality crash on nearby I-5.
