The crash was initially reported by a bus rider that had passed by the scene according to fire/aid emergency radio transmissions.
About 2pm today, aid and law enforcement were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle crash on southbound I-5 between the Nooksack River bridge and the Main Street off-ramp.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Fire Chief Ben Boyko, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle was being helped out of her vehicle when officials arrived. The vehicle had left the roadway and went down the embankment on the west side of the road. The only sign of the vehicle from the road was the skid marks.
The driver was reported to have been attempting to avoid an object in the road when the crash occurred.
Aid crews treated and released the driver at the scene.
