Cold weather advisory issued for Whatcom County lowlands

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — The Seattle office of the National Weather Service at 2:25pm today, Friday, December 26, 2025, issued a cold weather advisory for western Whatcom County due to expected “very cold wind chills.”

…COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO NOON PST SATURDAY…

  • WHAT…Very cold wind chills between 12 and 20 degrees expected.
  • WHERE…Lowlands of Western Whatcom County.
  • WHEN…From 1 AM to noon PST Saturday.
  • IMPACTS…Cold temperatures may impact vulnerable populations such as the homeless and those without adequate access to heating. Exposed pipes may be damaged by freezing conditions.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Northeasterly winds between 20 and 30 mph and cold overnight temperatures below freezing will allow for wind chills to drop between 12 and 20 degrees overnight into Saturday morning.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
