Classes delayed 2 hours – Roads icy for morning commute

The Ferndale School District (FSD) and Lummi Nation Schools have announced this morning that classes will begin 2 hours later than their regular start times this morning. In addition, all morning FSD activities and parent-teacher conferences scheduled for this afternoon have been canceled.

FSD students in grades K through 5 were scheduled to be dismissed early today. But, according to social media posts by elementary school officials, the early dismissal has also been canceled and students will be dismissed at their regular times.

Officials at the Ferndale Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Club announced their Early Bird program has been canceled due to the FSD two-hour delayed start and they will be operating with normal closing hours though with the extended day, closing at 7pm.

Fire and law enforcement personnel have already responded to multiple reports of overturned vehicles around Whatcom County so drivers are advised to adjust their speed and distance for these winter driving conditions.

City of Ferndale officials announced this morning that COF Public Works crews would be heading out with snowplows “to prevent slush from refreezing into ice.”
